TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi has revealed that Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung contacted him directly via WhatsApp after the club posted provocative content online ahead of their Carling Knockout Cup clash. Sukazi explained he saw the message, which contained three question marks, late due to his commitments at his law practice.

Speaking on a radio show, Sukazi defended the club's right to be expressive and creative in the digital space. He acknowledged the message from Motaung but stood by the strategy of using online banter to generate attention for fixtures. The chairman believes such interactions are healthy for the game if they stay within ethical limits, adding that the current friction is being used to motivate his squad for the upcoming match, as the team looks to improve on a difficult league position of 13th, having taken just six points from their first eight games with one win and three draws.

Learning from past controversy

Sukazi referenced a prior incident where the club's social media team posted content aimed at Orlando Pirates. That post, which came after a heavy 6-0 defeat to the Buccaneers last season, was interpreted as referencing allegations of improper dealings. Sukazi said he understood the team's intent to flip the narrative after fan mockery but decided the post had gone too far and ordered it taken down. He concluded that the integrity of the club was more important than viral engagement, a principle he maintains now, even as the team seeks to end a poor run of recent form that has seen them lose their last three matches.

TS Galaxy sit 13th in the Premier Soccer League with six points from eight games, having scored only 4 goals while conceding 9. This run includes a 3-0 loss to Orlando Pirates just last week, part of a concerning streak of three consecutive defeats. Their overall record this season shows seven goals scored and twelve conceded, leaving them with a minus five goal difference and a significant seventeen-point gap to the league leaders. Their most recent result was that 3-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates on Tuesday 13 October, where goals from Boitumelo Lawrence Radiopane, Tshepang Moremi, and Simphiwe Masilela sealed their fate. This followed a sequence of recent results including a 0-1 home loss to Chippa United on Sunday 20 September, a 0-1 defeat to Kruger United on Sunday 13 September, and a 0-0 draw with Sekhukhune United on Saturday 5 September.

Using rivalry as motivation

With the Carling Knockout Cup meeting against Kaizer Chiefs approaching, Sukazi admitted the banter might have made an enemy leading up to the match but insisted it remains within boundaries. The chairman confirmed the team's immediate focus is their next league match away to Polokwane City on Saturday 31 October, before full attention shifts to the cup tie where the social media exchanges have undoubtedly raised the stakes. He will hope top scorer V. Letsoalo, who has four goals this season, can help turn their fortunes around in that fixture.
